School Board Vice Chair Dr. Steve Gallon III recognized highly revered and respected Mrs. Valtena G. Brown at the School Board meeting of March 17, 2021 for her contribution and service to public education and Miami-Dade County Public Schools over the past 33 years.

Mrs. Brown served as the Superintendent/Chief Operating Officer for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Prior to that appointment, she has also served as Region Superintendent, assistant superintendent, administrative director, principal, assistant principal, and counselor. Mrs. Brown has been responsible for several initiatives and programs that have helped the M-DCPS community and its students thrive.

During the presentation, Mrs. Brown received several plaques and recognitions from community members and community groups. She received a standing ovation from the auditorium full of her colleagues, friends, and staff; a true testament to her impact on the learning and lives of our students and the entire Miami-Dade County Public Schools community.

“Mrs. Brown has successfully served our district with integrity, dedication, and the highest level of competence, compassion, passion, and skill,” Dr. Gallon said. “Her unrivaled love of education and the service to the children and community will be truly missed.”
