Dr. Steve Gallon III was proud to be among the hosts and witness the phenomenal turnout at the Job and Career Fair held at Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex. Other hosts included Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson, State Representative Shevrin Jones, and Councilman Reggie Leon.

Dr. Gallon was extremely proud of the companies and organizations that came out to engage community members and provide a platform for employment opportunities to support themselves and their families.

He commended State Representative Shevrin Jones for playing a lead role in this event.

Dr. Gallon had a great time at Joella Good Elementary School for a morning of community, fellowship, and most of all reading to the students for the African American Read-In.

The National African American Read-In is the nation’s first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature.

Dr. Gallon was very proud of and grateful to the principal, parents, educators, staff, community members, and students for making this annual event a huge success.

On February 9, 2019, Dr. Gallon celebrated the spirit of Trayvon Martin and the collective fight for justice at the 7th Annual Trayvon Martin Peace walk.

Dr. Gallon and community continued to Stand in Power with Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin and the Trayvon Martin Foundation Family.

Dr. Gallon was humbled and honored to be recognized as a 2019 Trailblazer by the Trayvon Martin Foundation.

He gave a huge thank you to Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin for this outstanding recognition as well as their continued service and fight for justice. Dr. Gallon pledged that he will continue to stand with them in the fight for justice.

There was great energy and engagement at “Meet Me Mondays” hosted by Councilwoman Katrina Wilson-Davis.

It is always a pleasure for Dr. Gallon to provide an update to the residents on the progress of District 1 and the work ahead and to respond to questions from the floor.

At the February 13, 2019 School Board Meeting, Dr. Gallon was humbled and honored to present a proclamation honoring the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project Class of 2019 Wilson Scholars.

He gave huge congratulations to the 47 graduating seniors that have been awarded scholarships as they prepare to attend college and pursue their life’s dreams, goals, and work.

Dr. Gallon was very proud of the coaches who came out and shared their stories around the work that they do with student athletes. He was also thankful for and proud of his colleagues for their unanimous support of his Board Agenda  item regarding improving compensation for coaches of interscholastic athletics in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

He gave a special “shout out” to Coach Luther Luke Campbell for his leadership and being a strong voice of advocacy, organization, and support on this important issue.

Dr. Gallon is looking forward to the collaborative work ahead and update in June 2019 and for making enhancements next year.

Dr. Steve Gallon III held his very successful Third Annual District 1 Black History Showcase, “Living Our Legacy,” on February 19, 2019 at Miami Carol City Senior High. The Master of Ceremony was Darryl Forges of NBC 6 News. Along with showcase sponsor Pastor Arthur Jackson III of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, the program brought out several dignitaries including, District 6 Board Member Mari Tere Rojas; Miami Gardens Councilwoman Katrina Wilson; Miami Gardens Councilman Reggie Leon; Jonathan Moses representing Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez’s office; Sonless Martin representing County Commissioner Xavier Suarez; Dr. Abdul Hamid Samra of the Islamic Center of Greater Miami; Pastor Wayne Lomax of The Fountain Church; Rodney Baltimore of Hot 105 FM; AFSCME President Vicki Hall; region staff, school administrators, students, and parents.

The event was effectively hossted by Carol City Senior High School under the leadership of Principal Adrena Williams.

The enthusiastic audience was treated to the amazing and talented student performers from Golden Glades Elementary, North Dade Center for Modern Languages, Rainbow Park Elementary, Norland Middle School, North Miami Middle School, Arts Academy of Excellence, Ricky Dance Company, North Miami Senior High, Miami Norland Senior High, Jan Mann 5000 Role Models, and the host school, Miami Carol City Senior High.

Performances included dance, chorus, spoken word, drama, jazz band, drumlines, and step teams. A special visual presentation was featured reflecting on the past and highlighting the present status of African Americans and their legacy. Reflective of the song “We Won’t Move,” the presentation was inspiring and heartfelt.

Dr. Gallon started the morning of February 21, 2019 by giving words about the contributions of Blacks to this nation, world, and humanity at the North Dade Center for Modern Languages Black History Program.

There was outstanding energy and performances by the students.

He gave kudos to Principal Dr. Maria Castaigne, teachers, staff, parents, and students.

There was strong participation, purpose, and passion at the 19th Annual “No More Broken Hearts” Domestic Violence Workshop established and presented by Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall, District 2 School Board, Dr. Gallon’s friend and fellow fighter for children and families.

He congratulated her on another outstanding event and remains honored and humbled to continue to stand in support of this very important work.
