After nearly four decades of historic service as a lifelong educator—rising from a classroom teacher to a Superintendent of Schools—and a transformative tenure on the Miami-Dade School Board, Dr. Steve Gallon III has officially won the election for the Miami-Dade County Commission District 1 seat. Elected unopposed, he will officially assume office in January 2027.

During his tenure of service on the School Board, Dr. Gallon successfully sponsored and advanced more than 100 Board agenda items, including securing over $2 billion in funding for teacher compensation and school safety. While his service on the School Board comes to a close, his commitment to the people of District 1 remains unchanged. As Commissioner-Elect, Dr. Gallon is focused on improving the quality of life for all residents through affordable housing, public safety, economic opportunity, neighborhood revitalization, and youth development.

Urban School Turnaround

Dr. Gallon is a proven turnaround expert who successfully removed Holmes Elementary from the State of Florida’s list of critically low-performing schools. His historic seven-year tenure as principal of Miami Northwestern Senior High School and his selection as a Superintendent of Schools in New Jersey underscore his lifelong commitment to student success.

Advocacy & Economic Equity

As a decisive leader and Vice Chair, Dr. Gallon successfully sponsored and advanced more than 100 Board agenda items to ensure fairness and equity in education and economics. His visionary policies helped secure over $2 billion in funding for teacher compensation and safety, and actively improved business opportunities for Minority, Women, and Black-owned Businesses.

Community & Youth Investment

Dr. Gallon’s advocacy extends beyond the classroom. Serving as a Board member for the Miami Children’s Initiative (MCI), his mission is to address community needs by providing a unified system of support, education, and care that begins before birth through college and career.
