At a “Wakanda” Themed Gala held On Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the Miami Airport Hilton, District 1 School Board Member Dr. Steve Gallon III was bestowed the honor of 2018 Educator of the Year for Miami-Dade County by Legacy Miami.
They highlighted Dr. Gallon’s efforts and success as a life-long educator and his championing of causes in Miami-Dade County Public Schools such as educational equity and access, exceptional student education, increased teacher and employee salaries, and fair and equitable opportunities for small, minority and local businesses since being elected in November 2016.
This event celebrated and honored some of the best and most influential leaders across South Florida—-from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County.
Dr. Gallon, who is also the National School Board Association’s 2017 Benjamin Elijah Mays Award Winner, was recognized and honored for his nearly 30 years of service to public education as a teacher, principal, district administrator, Superintendent of Schools, and elected School Board Member.
