Miami-Dade County Public Schools Board Member Dr. Steve Gallon III joined students, educators, and community partners yesterday to celebrate the unveiling of a new soccer mini-pitch at Oak Grove Elementary School—part of an initiative expanding opportunities for students districtwide.
“Yesterday was about more than opening a field—it was about opening doors for our children,” said Dr. Gallon. “With 25 mini-pitches across the district, students now have spaces to build confidence, develop skills, and feel a sense of belonging.”
The Oak Grove installation is one of 25 mini-pitches representing a $2.5 million investment in student wellness, recreation, and community engagement. The effort was made possible through a partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation, The Children’s Trust, and philanthropist Ken Griffin.
These mini-pitches provide safe, accessible spaces for physical activity, teamwork, and skill-building during and after school, reflecting the district’s commitment to student wellness and opportunity.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools continues to invest in partnerships that enhance student experiences and support success inside and outside the classroom.
