I trust that this edition of Gallon’s Good News finds you well and finding strength as we approach the final stretch of the 2018-2019 school year. During this time, I want to encourage and commend you and your efforts as we continue to support our students’ successful participation in the 2019 Annual State Assessments. I trust that our students will find confidence in their preparation and will continue to excel and achieve at even higher levels.
As you continue to press forward on behalf of our students, I want to express my deepest appreciation for what you do, how you do it, and most important, who you are as a member of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools and role you play in the learning and lives of our students. At the April 17, 2019 School Board Meeting, Dr. Gallon was actively engaged in his role as a policy maker as he successfully proffered School Board agenda items that received unanimous approval and support from the Board.

District 1 Town Hall Meeting
On April 2, 23019 at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Gallon held an Educational Town Hall Meeting at North Dade Middle School where he discussed upcoming policies, programs, practices, and progressing education in the district.
32nd Annual Day in the Legislature & Florida School Board of Association Board of Directors’ Meeting
Dr. Gallon attended the 32nd Annual Day in the Legislature & Florida School Board of Association Board of Directors’ Meeting held in Tallahassee, Florida.
Grand Opening of Acceleration Academy in Miami Gardens
On Thursday, April 11, 2019, Dr. Gallon started his morning celebrating the grand opening of Acceleration Academy in Miami Gardens along with Mayor Oliver Gilbert.
The school is a contracted public school program open to students ages 16-21 seeking a second chance at their education and life goals and opportunities.
Principal & Assistant Principal of the Year Awards Ceremony
Dr. Gallon was proud and grateful that the dedication, service, hard work, and love for students of Rhonda Gaines, Assistant Principal of Miami Carol City Senior High School was recognized on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year Awards Ceremony sponsored by the Dade Association of School Administrators (DASA).
For the second year in a row, District 1 has become home to the Assistant Principal of the Year for Miami-Dade County Public Schools as Ms. Gaines was bestowed the honor as the top assistant principal in the nation’s fourth largest school district. Humbled and honored to serve witness to her success, he is looking forward to her continued leadership journey.
He gratefully saluted Ms. Rhonda Williams of Barbara Hawkins Elementary who was named as the North Regions Finalist for Principal of the Year and gave congratulations to all of the honorees for this great and distinguished recognition.
Delta Sigma Theta for Delta Days
On April 17, 2019, Dr. Gallon supported his friend and colleague School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall and the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta for Delta Days at the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Recognizing M-DCPS’ Assistant Principal of the Year & North Region’s Principal of the Year
At the April 17, 2019 School Board Meeting, Dr. Gallon continued to honor and celebrate the “Two Rhondas”, Rhonda Gaines, Miami-Dade County Assistant Principal of the Year and Rhonda Williams, North Region’s Principal of the Year by presenting them with proclamations.
Both individuals are educational leaders who have proven themselves as highly competent, committed, compassionate and caring instructional leaders who have distinguished themselves among the educators throughout the District, state, and the nation.
District 1’s 2nd Annual Resource & Talent Expo
Dr. Gallon held his 2nd Annual District 1 Community Resource and Talent Expo on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Miami Norland Senior High School. The expo was attended by students, parents, community stakeholders, and over 15 vendors.
The event was held to empower, educate, and engage the community through numerous resources such as health care, testing & assessment, voter registration, and tutoring; to access Universities, Colleges, and Technical Schools such as St. Thomas University, Florida Memorial University, FIU, Miami Dade, Acceleration Academy, Miami Lakes Educational Center, and Dorsey; and for the community to be entertained by District 1’s talented arts programs from Miami Norland Senior drama & dance, Viking Freedom Writers, and Rainbow Park Elementary’s drama & dance.
District 1 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony
On April 30, 2019, Dr. Gallon continued to be honored, humbled, and inspired to serve such a great group of students, educators, parents, staff, administrators, principals, and community stakeholders at the District 1 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony held at Lake Stevens Middle School.
