As we reach the midpoint of the 2024-2025 school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible progress, achievements, and dedication of our students, faculty, and staff. From academic excellence to outstanding performances in the arts, athletics, and community initiatives, District 1 continues to shine as a beacon of success and opportunity.

I am proud of the hard work and commitment displayed in our classrooms, on our stages and sports fields, and throughout our community. Your perseverance and passion are the driving forces behind our continued growth, and I remain steadfast in my commitment to ensuring that every student has the resources and support needed to thrive.

As we head into Spring recess, I encourage you to take this time to relax, recharge, and enjoy well-deserved moments with family and friends. Stay safe, take care of yourselves, and return refreshed and ready to finish the school year strong.

Supporting the Trayvon Martin Foundation Peace Walk

Dr. Gallon III began the month by supporting the Trayvon Martin Foundation Peace Walk and Peace Talk. He expressed his ongoing commitment to standing in solidarity for social justice, honoring Trayvon Martin’s legacy, and advocating for continued progress in equity and civil rights.

Advocating for Educational Equity

February 4, | 2025

Dr. Gallon reaffirmed the critical role of the U.S. Department of Education in providing resources, enforcing laws, and protecting the rights of vulnerable student populations, including those living in poverty and students with special needs. He emphasized that educational challenges should never be viewed through a political lens but rather as a fundamental issue that requires collective action.

Strengthening Partnerships with Florida Memorial University

Dr. Gallon met with Florida Memorial University President William McCormick to discuss shared goals and potential collaborations with District 1 and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Their discussion focused on expanding educational opportunities for students and enhancing community development through strategic partnerships.

District 1 Student of the Month Recognition Ceremony

February 12, | 2025

At the February 12, 2025, School Board Meeting, Dr. Gallon was honored to recognize the 2025 Wilson Scholars from the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project, celebrating their leadership, character, and promise as future leaders.

He also expressed gratitude for the unanimous support of his Board item aimed at enhancing interscholastic sports programs at the middle and K-8 levels. He emphasized the role of athletics in fostering students’ confidence, discipline, and overall well-being.

Addressing Immigration Issues in Miami-Dade

February 20, | 2025

Dr. Gallon joined North Miami Councilman Pierre Frantz Charles, Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall, The Haitian Lawyers Association, and the Association of Haitian Educators of Dade in discussing recent immigration issues affecting families and students. He highlighted the importance of staying informed and knowing one’s rights during these challenging times.

9th Annual District 1 Black History Month Showcase

February 25, | 2025

The 9th Annual District 1 Black History Month Showcase, Black Excellence on Broadway, hosted by Dr. Gallon, was a resounding success, bringing together students, educators, and community members at Miami Norland Senior High School.

Students from across District 1 delivered powerful performances in dance, spoken word, and theater, celebrating the African American history of Broadway and its cultural impact. Dr. Gallon praised the students’ talent and emphasized the importance of the arts in education.

Miami Gardens Councilwoman Katrina Baskin served as Mistress of Ceremony, joined by Councilwoman Katrina Wilson Davis and Councilman Reggie Leon in supporting the event.

Dr. Gallon reaffirmed his commitment to fostering artistic opportunities, ensuring the showcase continues to inspire for years to come.

Improving Middle School Athletics Meeting

February 26, | 2025

Dr. Gallon met with M-DCPS Chief Operating Officer Luis Diaz to discuss the implementation of his Board item focused on enhancing middle school athletics. He reiterated his dedication to improving the overall middle school experience by investing in extracurricular programs that support students’ growth and development.
